Reflection
Before
the first day of class for EDET, when I thought of technology I usually just
think about computers and phones, but on that day my mind was opened to new
ideas, where some of the tools I carry in my handbag can be classified as a
part of technology. The session was very interactive where a lively debate took
place about the use of old and new technology.
Questions asked in class
Educators
should incorporate technology in the classroom to aid students instead of a
teacher just standing in front of a class speaking or giving notes from a book
which allows the children to become bored, whereas the technology will assist
the students in becoming more engaged in the lesson, and this will also push teachers
to show videos, charts and graphs which will add to the lesson content and
bring about more meaningful and critical information which students can
visualize. Computers in the classroom can also assist students with research,
this will help the teacher to get more work from students and also better
classroom management because the students will be engaged, giving the teacher
more time to assist those who require more attention. My personal vision is to
see all classrooms in Antigua and Barbuda fully equipped with computers in an
environment that is conductive for learning.
A blog can help improve
classroom instructions and communication, by a teacher posting assignments and
research work for students. Students will then place their work on blogs for
the teacher to make comments on how the student can further improve his/her
work. This will help students to get better feedback in understanding how to
correct the work. The teacher’s job will also be easier because most of the
corrections would have taken place. This would have help also in knowing where
that student is at and how to bridge the gap. This E-portfolio can also serve
as an avenue for students to display their creative work.
